Many Things To Overcome - Childhood

A photographic exploration of womanhood and identity, reflecting on how childhood ideals shape the expectations of adult life.

The second chapter of Many Things To Overcome explores the relationship between childhood influences and adult identity. Through staged portraits, a young woman in a suit encounters objects associated with her childhood, revealing tensions between who she has been taught to become and how she sees herself. References to Barbie and inherited ideas of femininity contrast with the suit as a symbol of adulthood and professional life. The mirror becomes a space for self-reflection, bringing past and present into the same frame. The series questions how cultural expectations and early role models continue to shape a woman’s understanding of herself and her place in society. I developed the project’s concept and narrative, shaping every visual decision—from styling and clothing to the selection of symbolic objects. Through art direction and photography, I brought these elements together to express the ideas behind the series.
